Jane Stuart (American, 1812-1888) Portrait of George Washington Unsigned, identified on a partial handwritten label and with a New York canvas stamp on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 17 x 17 in. (43.1 x 43.1 cm), framed. Condition: Loss l.c., retouch, varnish inconsistencies, craquelure. Provenance: Descended from the current owner's great grandmother, who lived in Franklin House, Newport, Rhode Island. Franklin House was purportedly once inhabited by Jane Stuart.
