School of Cornelis de Vos (Flemish, 1585-1651) Portrait of the Antwerp Patrician, Pieter Joncheijn Dated "Ano 1611. " u.r., inscribed "B J" on the reverse. Oil on panel, 26 x 20 in. (66.0 x 50.7 cm), framed. Condition: Repaired vertical splits to panel, retouch, craquelure. Provenance: Ex-collection of Prince Elie Parma-Bourbon, brother of Empress Zita of Austria, purchased before 1968, then by descent within the family of the present owner. N.B. Circa 1968, Gustav Gluck, Director of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, attributed the work to Rubens and identified the sitter. Victor Spark and BJA Renckens suggested an attribution to the Mierevelt School around the same time. Current scholarship indicates a stronger connection to de Vos.
