McMurtrie, Draughtsman of the U.S. Surveying Expedition. 1851, (Conningham, 6409). Identified by inscriptions in the matrix. Lithograph with hand-coloring on paper, sheet size 20 x 30 1/2 in., in a molded bird's-eye maple frame. Condition: Margins of 1/4 in. or more, tear into background of image u.r., small repairs on edges and corners, remains of tape hinges at the top. Provenance: From the collection of the late Dr. Arthur Localio of Deerfield, Massachusetts. Note: This lithograph ranked no. 25 in the original "Best 50" large folio. u.r. background tear about 3 1/2 in. lg., either has a near invisible repair on the reverse or the tear is on the top surface only (does not go all the way through to the back layer of paper), minor toning, two corners repaired.
