Paint Decorated Fireman's Parade Hat, Monroe Fire Company, Philadelphia, dated 1823, the hat painted red with "MONROE" inscribed in gilt lettering on a black banner across the front of the crown highlighted by a gilt sunburst, the back with gilt painted year "1823," the top with indistinct initials, possibly "J. F," (repairs), ht. 6, dia. 12 1/2 in. repaired around the top of the crown (probably reattached ) with retouch to that area, no repaint evident to the rest of the hat, edge of brim missing (worn off) around the front !/3.
