Portrait of "The Hon. Ms Ada Byron," England, circa 1840, unsigned, watercolor on paper, subject identified in inscription on paper backing and note and newspaper article affixed to the reverse, depicting an oval bust-length profile likeness of the girl wearing a white dress and a beaded coral necklace, 4 3/4 x 2 5/8 in., in an eglomise mat and carved wood frame. Condition: Minor toning. Note: Ada Byron, Countess of Lovelace, was the daughter of the Poet Lord Byron and Anabella Milbanke, born December 10, 1815. According to the affixed article, she was believed to have "worked with Charles Babbage, the inventer of the Analytical Engine-the forerunner of the computer- and is best known for her translation into English of a paper describing it."
