Xavier Bueno (Italian, 1915-1979) Girl with Flowers Signed "Xavier Bueno. " u.l. Oil on Masonite, 27 1/2 x 19 1/2 in. (69.8 x 49.5 cm), framed. Condition: Surface losses. Provenance: A private mid-Atlantic collection. N.B. Born in Vera de Bidasoa, Spain, in 1915, Bueno began his artistic studies as the S. Fernando Academy in Madrid where he completed many works in the Spanish Realism style. He continued his studies with Diase Bianquet at the Grand Caumiere in Paris. This piece is an fine example of Bueno's style, known for his portrayl of children and women, often looked to Goya and Delacroix for inspiration. In 1947 Bueno, along with other artists, drafted a manifest of Modern Realistic Painting, in which the painters openly opposed the abstract art movements which were occurring in Italy at the time.
