Kellogg and Comstock, publishers (Hartford, Connecticut) Temperence Banner. Love, Purity, and Fidelity., identified in inscriptions in the matrix. Lithograph on paper, c. 1849, sight size 13 1/4 x 9 1/2 in., in a period wood frame. Condition: Minor toning, light moisture stains u.l. Note: A typewritten letter affixed to the reverse commemorates the gift of this lithograph to a Boston gentleman purchasing a building in 1949 occupied by the "School-Marm's Club." It was given to the gentleman by the vice-president of the State Street Trust Company of Boston. The gentleman write's "...the nature of the facilities provided by the club are such as to require some reasonably restraining influences...which I would like to donate to the club...I do not believe the glass of cold spring water the gentleman is holding will taste as good as what the lady in scarlet is offering him."
