Boris Margo (Ukrainian/American, 1902-1995) Untitled [Abstract] Signed "Boris Margo" l. r. Mixed media and cellocut on paper, sight size 20 1/2 x 15 1/2 in. (52.1 x 39.4 cm), framed. Condition: Subtle rippling, not examined out of the frame. N.B. Margo originated the "cellocut" technique in 1936 which consists of applying a liquid plastic (celluloid dissolved in acetone) to a hard support, allowing the plastic to harden, and then incising designs into the surface. (1)The support can then be used as a print matrix to create cellocut prints, or as in the present work, original mixed media compositions. (1) Boris Margo: A Retrospective. Provincetown Art Association and Museum, July 8 to August 17, 1988 [exh. cat.] Pg. 18.
