Robert Wadsworth Grafton (American, 1876-1936) New Orleans Courtyard Unsigned, artist's name inscribed on the reverse. Oil on canvas mounted onto board, 14 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. (36.8 x 26.6 cm), framed (under glass). Condition: Support slightly warped, scattered retouch, surface grime. Provenance: Gift from the artist c. 1925, then by descent to the current owner. N.B. Born in Chicago, Robert Wadsworth Grafton studied at the Chicago Academy of Design and the Art Institute of Chicago. Although Grafton worked primarily in Chicago and Michigan City, Indiana, he started to travel to New Orleans in the winters around 1914. The work might benefit from a gentle cleaning.
