Prairie Painted Parfleche Trunk, Mesquaki, c. mid-19th century, the rectangular form painted with abstract cross, feather, and geometric designs on the sides, top, and flap, in black, green, and red, dark patina, (hide loss and tears at bottom), lg. 25, ht. 12, wd. 12 in. Provenance: Mordecai Thomas Bartram (1843-1904), collected between 1871 and 1873, then descended within the family.
