Frank Henry Shapleigh (American, 1842-1906) Mt. Chocorua from Tamworth, N.H. Signed and dated "F.H. Shapleigh 1875" l.r., artist and title inscribed in the artist's hand on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 20 x 30 in. (50.8 x 76.2 cm), unframed. Condition: Retouch, varnish inconsistencies, scattered craquelure with flaking and losses, surface grime. The retouch is scattered strokes throughout. The losses are tiny and are scattered primarily near the lower right and upper left corners. There is a quarter-sized puncture near the red houses, lower right, and a round abrasion in the sky upper right. The work might benefit from cleaning. PROVENANCE: The painting comes from a Massachusetts collection.
