Two Wool and Linen Canvaswork Pockets, America, 18th century, the examples here worked in an Irish stitch, in multicolored geometric patterns in shades of red, green, blue, and yellow, bound with red wool twill tape, lined and backed with linen, (minor wear and yarn losses), 14 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. Note: worn in the 18th and 19th centuries, a pocket was tied around a woman's waist and worn under or over her skirt. both are missing the red twill ties, a fragment of one remains on each another woven tape was applied to each one, one pocket has several spots of wear through the twill binding to the canvas below, both have a few small scattered spots of yarn loss, the linen is in very good condition.
