Maud Earl (British/American, 1864-1943) Pair of Images: Birds Perched on Winter Branches One signed and dated "MAUD EARL 1935" l. c., one inscribed "Maud Earle" on the reverse. Oil with mixed media on board, sizes 40 x 28 in. (101.6 x 71.1 cm), framed. Condition: Good. N.B. Daughter of British sporting artist George Earl, Maude Earl became famous for her Art Nouveau renderings of animals. She studied with her father, who emphasized the importance of studying animals' anatomy. A court painter at Buckingham Palace, Maud Earl worked in both America and Europe. This pair of paintings is done in a Japonesque style, depicting crows perched on twisted bare branches against a stark mottled metallic silver ground.
