Attributed to Thomas Sully (American, 1783-1872) Portrait of Mary Ann Holmes (Mrs. Junius Brutus Booth) Unsigned, identified on a label on the reverse. Oil on panel (cradled), 18 1/2 x 15 in. (46.9 x 38.1 cm), framed. Condition: Surface grime, craquelure. Provenance: Booth family to Mrs. White of Millbrook, New York, sold through Richard A. Bourne Co., Inc., Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, 1968. N.B. Mary Ann Holmes was the second wife of Junius Brutus Booth. The couple had ten children, including Edwin Thomas Booth, through whom the work descended, and the notorious John Wilkes Booth.
