Painted Polpar Valuables Box, probably Pennsylvania, 1803, dovetail constructed box with overhanging molded lid with raised panel with ovolo corners and wrought iron handle joined to the canted rectangular box with shaped iron strap hinges, the sides decorated with stylized budding flowers and heart-form brushstrokes in shaded creamy white and salmon paint on a dark blue ground, the front with shaped iron strap escutcheon with vestiges of salmon paint, flanked by the painted initials "OH" and "SF" and the year "1803," the interior fitted with a till and two small shelves, ht. 9 1/2, wd. 11 1/2, dp. 9 3/4 in.
