Paul Troubetzkoy (Russian/American, 1866-1938) Tolstoy on Horseback Dated and signed "1911 Paul Troubetzkoy" l. c., Valsuani foundry mark l.r. Bronze sculpture, height 18 in. (45.7 cm). Condition: Good. N.B. Prince Paul Petrovitch Troubetzkoy, the son of a Russian nobleman and an American woman, was born in Paris. He spent his early career living and visiting France, Italy, Russia, and the United States. He created as a means of social reformation and in 1899 became a member of Wanderersoa group. The in the early 1900s he made several trips to Yasnaya Polyana, the estate of Russian writer Tolstoy. There, Troubetzkoy sketched and sculptured several likenesses of the author.
