Plains Carved Wood and Stone Pipe, late 19th century, the ash stem with carved turtle and elk head effigies on the flat surface, the round surface wrapped in steel and brass wire, the unusual red pipestone bowl in the shape of a pipe tomahawk with a relief carved horse on the blade and a bear on the reverse, patina of use, lg. of stem 18 1/2 in. Provenance: Lieutenant Colonel John Sylvanus Loud.
