David Folger Bigelow (American ,1823-1910) Lot of Two Vermont Landscapes. One signed "DFB" l.r. Oil on academy board, sight size 4 x 6 1/2 in., both in gilt gesso frames. Condition: A few areas of retouch mostly on edges. Note: Daniel Bigelow was born in 1823 in Peru, Clinton County, New York. He moved to Chicago in 1858, where he became well known as a landscape painter. Bigelow became one of the associates of G.P.A. Healy, and the group of artists who founded the Chicago Academy of Design. He died in Chicago in 1910. Exhibition: Christian A. Johnson Gallery, Middlebury College, Vermont, Vermont Landscape Images 1776-1976, July 15-October 15, 1976. An exhibition label is affixed to the reverse.
