(Civil War, Ironclad Naval Operations), Autograph Letter Signed, from a Union sailor from the U. S.S. Chickasaw , August 20th, (1864), four pages, concerning the activities of the Chickasaw during the Battle of Mobile Bay, the capture of the C.S.S. Tennessee and the C.S.S. Velma , a skirmish near shore, and general life on an ironclad, folio, (folded, some toning). Note: According to the Naval Historical Center, the U.S.S. Chickasaw was commissioned in 1864. The 1300-ton "Milwaukee" class ironclad performed most of her duty with the West Gulf Blockading Squadron. After the war she was renamed twice, used as a railroad ferry and eventually broken up in 1944.
