Text in full: Sherwood Forest April 4, 1856 / My son; Your letter of the 28 March reached my yesterday, and I write chiefly to express my concern for your health - and to say that no matter what the form in which sickness may afflict you, whether in the form of a cough or otherwise it is all traceable to bilious .... and that Calomel is the great curative. I have watched you from infancy and every attach you have ever had has been resolvable into this. Take Calomel and get well, is my full prescription for you. Yesterday, mail brought us tidings of your Uncle Walt's being quite sick. He had been ill but was doing better. John C. goes up to-day. We have all labored under bad colds. Justine (?) was taken some weeks before his confinement with a most .... attack and the cough was for weeks so very bad that I began to apprehend a disease of the lungs - but she is now getting over it. and since the birth of her child (a boy) is much improved.
