Hancock, John (1737-1793), Group of three letters concerning John Temple, a suspected spy whose travel habits raised suspicions during the Revolutionary War; comprising a letter from John Hanson to Hancock voicing his and other patriots' suspicions about Temple; the second an autograph letter signed integrally, one page, retained copy of a Hancock letter to Hanson offering to investigate the matter; and an Autograph Letter, scribe unknown, two pages, October 20th, 1783, an official copy of a letter sent to Tristram Salton regarding the situation, docketed and annotated by Hancock, (overall age typical, good).Provenance: The Hancock-Chase Collection, formerly housed at the National Museum of American History.
