British School, lat 19th / early 20th century. "River Valley", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned, canvas with maker's mark to verso "Winsor & Newton's Quality Canvas Rathbone Place London, W.". Figural panoramic landscape painting depicting a lush river valley encircled by tall mountain ridges, with a shallow, rocky riverbed in the foreground and a group of men an dogs on the far river bank in the midground, with verdant foliage throughout and rolling mountains in the distance. Framed approximately 28" x 46.5". Unframed approximately 18" x 36". Note: Winsor & Newton was an artist supply manufacturer that was founded in London in 1832 at 30 Rathbone Place, where they remained until 1937/38. Provenance: From the Estate of Channing S. Jun, M.D., Eastman, Georgia.
