Lancaster County, Pennsylvania poplar and pine polychrome decorated compass box, ca. 1800-1840 , with punched sheet iron latch and escutcheon, single drawer and profuse red and white decoration on a blue ground, 12 1/2" h., 16" w., 10 1/2" d. This is an outstanding example of this man's work. For reference and examples, see American Radiance The Ralph Esmerian Collection , pgs. 172 and 459. A nearly identical example was sold from the collection of Richard and Joy Kanter, Sotheby's January 2002, lot 682, originally from the Lorimer Collection and Ronald Pook Antiques.
