AMERICAN ASH & METAL APOTHECARY BALANCE SCALE, CIRCA 1880, H 7", W 5 1/2", L 12 1/2":Size above is of ash box. Top section of ash box having a glass top to reveal scale; top is mounted to a granite surface (break in corner), atop a lower section of the ash box. Impressed "Penna & N.Y.C., Appd. Type 17, Serial W 2" about front gilt metal mount. Metal knob turns to balance the two scales.
