William Birdsall Gifford (American/ English, 1839-1929). "The Sea of Galilee" - 1890, oil on canvas, signed lower left "W.B. Gifford", inscribed to verso of stretcher "The Sea of Galilee Painted from Nature by Wm. B. Gifford 1890". Impressionist painting depicts an overhead view of a cove in the Sea of Galilee with mountains to far bank in tones of pink with a snowy mountain peak to far right, the near bank with regional architecture and trees, figures to center foreground in colorful robes with one riding on camel. Provenance inscribed to verso of stretcher "Bought by Albert Leffuigarll (sp?) of Austria in 1896". Framed approximately 19.75" x 27.75", unframed approximately 12" x 20".
