Manner of Cosmo Alexander (Scottish, 1724-1772), "Portrait of a Gentleman", oil on canvas, unsigned. Formal portrait painting depicting a bust length three-quarter length view of a gentleman in silvered amour with white collar, long curled wig, stoic facial expression and rosy cheeks against a dark muted background. Verso of frame with hand written applied plaque noting artist and subject "ROSE OF KILROCK CASTLE". Sitter could be a male member of the Rose Clan in Scotland who resided at Kilravock Castle in the council area of Highland, Scotland. Framed approximately 36.75" x 31.75". Unframed approximately 30" x 22.25".
