Gerhard H. Welcher (Swedish (Eskilstuna), active late 18th and early 19th century, circa 1790. A charming Swedish Gustavian (1772-1809) tall case or longcase clock in the traditional Swedish Mora comtoise form painted beige surmounted by an urn finial carved in the round over the circular glass dial door displaying the painted clock face with Arabic numerals and patinated dial signed G.H.Welcher/ Eskilstuna/No. 1479, the outward curving waist section with hinged door comprising a circular display window, over a curved waist molding, the paneled base section decorated with a carved diaper pattern and scalloped skirt, resting on French front feet and platform back support. Approximate height 86", width 18", depth 7.25". Provenance: Property from the Private Collection of Helen Ballard, Atlanta, Georgia.
