AMERICAN NEEDLEWORK BETSY YATES, GROTON SAMPLER, DATED AUGUST 1820:Blue, pink, brown and green cottons on a linen ground with eleven bands containing six alphabets punctuated with silk highlights, followed by numeral one through ten, the lower right corner with house and flowers, the whole with a diamond-stitched brown border, inscribed at the bottom: Betsy Yates Sampler wrought in Groton August 1820 in the 12th year of her age.
