VINTAGE 1937 MARTIN, D-28, ACOUSTIC GUITAR, SERIAL #65574, 14 FRET, 1937:having 14 "T" form frets mounted on a mother-of- pearl snowflake inlay fret board; solid peghead with original Grover tuning keys and gilt decal inscribed across top: "C.F. Martin Co. 1833" with black border around the letters; trimmed with a white celluloid grained "Ivoroid" herringbone pattern binding on an Adirondack spruce top with "comma shape" tortoise grain celluloid pick guard; Brazilian rosewood back and sides with "zipper" back stripe; white bridge pins with tortoise dots and ebony bridge. One of very few made in 1937. Includes case with a woven texture exterior in beige, brass lock and latches; green velvet interior with string pocket with hinged lid; This guitar was purchased by the consigners father in 1942. Martin Guitars has confirmed that this guitar is a 1937 D-28. Preventive maintenance was performed by Elderly Instruments, Lansing, Michigan in 2006 (see additional photo in website) and as follows: The neck was reset with a fingerboard extension shim; frets leveled, seated and re-glued; screws removed from bridge and re-glued, screw holes plugged in both bridge and bridge plate; new bone saddle; removed and re-glued pick guard and simultaneously repaired small crack at bottom of sound hole by pick guard (was re-glued from inside of body utilizing small thin wood reinforcement plate); new end pin;
