HENRI SCHAFER, OIL ON CANVAS, 1887, 16" X 12", "UTRECHT, HOLLAND":Monogrammed and dated 1887 in lower left; signed and titled on verso; gilt frame. Provenance: The Museum Galleries, London label on the verso. Schafer studied at l'Ecole National de Beaux-Arts in Paris. He painted town scenes, city scenes and cathedral interiors in Belgium, Germany, and France. He was known to have painted in a style reminiscent of Alfred Montague. Schafer is listed in The Dictionary of British Art, Vol. IV, Victorian Painters by Wood.
