Needlework Sampler, "Wrought by Mary Rice, Aged 12 Years," possibly Vermont, early 19th century, silk threads on a linen ground centered with alphabet panels over the verse "Still where rosy pleasure leads/See a Kindred grief Pursue/Behind the steps that misery treads/Approaching comfort view," enclosed in a sawtooth border, further bordered by a house flanked by two willow tree and flowering vines, 17 1/4 x 18 in. , in a black painted frame with mustard painted leaves.
