Large Needlework Sampler, "Ruth Cogswell Uphams Sampler of Rochester Aged ten years April 18 1825," New Hampshire, silk threads on a linen ground with alphabet panels over prayer verses, embellished with flowers issuing from baskets, borders of strawberry vines, geometric heart, and sawtooth borders, (minor fading), 31 1/2 x 17 3/4 in. , framed. Note: Ruth Cogswell's family moved to Massachusetts in 1681. Subsequently, they went to Rochester, New Hampshire. According to a book on the Uphams, they were originally in Massachusetts and later in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
