Portrait Miniature of Sarah Carroll Wearing a Black Dress and Holding a Red Rose, 1828, the name of the sitter and date inscribed in ink on a paper label affixed to the reverse: "Sarah Carroll Drawn May 1828 Aged 6 years & 7 months," watercolor on ivory, half-length figure portrayed in a landscape with flowers, sight size 2 7/8 x 2 3/8 in. , housed in a black lacquered frame with oval gilt-brass liner. Condition: Two minor small spots of paint loss on dress below arm, some flecks of surface debris. Glass has an angled surface scratch, several tiny flecks of of mold bloom on surface.
