Han-style Woman's Informal Robe, China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), the blue silk damask finely woven with Buddhist emblems, with goldfish-form boats sailing on rolling waves near the hem, bordered by an appliqued geometric wan band interspersed with decorations of blossoms and endless knots, the appliqued cloud collar embellished with a pair of foo lions and vases of flowers, with brocade trim and collar. Provenance: From the estate of Richard Young, Van Hornesville, New York. This collection originally belonged to his stepmother, Louise Powis Brown Young, who had amassed the textiles during the first quarter of the 20th century.
