London: for John Bowles & Carington Bowles Large double-page engraved folio map, with some borders and rivers picked out in hand-color, faded; old folds, some toning along the edges and the center horizontal fold, discolored spot in the ocean, south of the Azores, 25 3/4 x 20 1/4 the sheet. This mid-18th century map depicts California as a peninsula (not an island), and includes accurate renderings of the Great Lakes.
