Richard Tuttle (American, b. 1941) Paper Octagonal #1 , 1970 Unsigned, inscribed and titled "Cut on the inside of this line..." in pencil l.r. Graphite on paper, sheet size 54 1/2 x 60 in. (138.4 x 152.4 cm), framed. Condition: Irregularly trimmed edges. Provenance: Acquired from the artist, private Massachusetts collection. N.B. According to the artist, Paper Octagonal, #1 is of an edition of 100. As an uncut octagonal, it is a conceptual rather than ostensible work of art. He notes, "If someone were to cut it (correctly, which means, carefully inside the line), and wall paper paste it to a white wall, it would be a work of art."
