Russian Metal Cross, 17th/18th century, the face inscribed God of Glory, Jesus Christ, Son of the Holy Father , the reverse bearing the remains of the inscription Before Thy Holy Cross we bow and in Thy Holy Resurrection we glorify. God Save Our Lives , lg. 2 1/4 in. Provenance: Purchased in 1933 from the Hammer Collection's Russian Imperial Exhibit. A copy of a letter related to the sale, which claimed the cross originally belonged to Grand Duchess Tatiana Nikolaevna, accompanies the lot.
