Plains Pictorial Beaded Buffalo Hide Blanket Strip, c. 1870, with three multicolored sawtooth-edged rondels and four stylized pronghorns on a light blue background, lg. 59 3/4, dia. of rondel 6 7/8 in. Provenance: Charles H. Heyl II collection. Note: Charles Heath Heyl II (1849 -1926), a U.S. Army Officer who received a Medal of Honor for his actions during the Indian Wars. He was appointed Second Lieutenant in 1873. He advanced in rank to Assistant Adjutant General of the army in 1898. Most of his Indian collection was given to the Smithsonian Institute. The two items offered here have descended in the family.
