Ute Woman's Painted Buffalo Hide Robe, c. 1870, box and border design, the inner design done in red, green, blue, black, and white pigments on a yellow ground, the perimeter with red ochre pigment and the original stake holes, lg. 85 in. Provenance: Collected by William Baillie-Grohman (1851-1921), an Austrian sportsman and mountaineer, during a five-month hunting trip in the Wind River Mountains on the Shoshone Indian Reservation, Wyoming, in the autumn of 1880.
