THE SHEPHERDESS Probably French. Made circa 1810. Fine and rare, gold, gilt brass and enamel miniature mantle timepiece in the form of an urn with concealed dial and two painted enamel scenes. Rectangular base with blue and white banded enamel and wreath decoration, enameled stand to stepped upper, square case with hinged circular cover featuring painted enamel scene of a young fl irting couple in a fi eld, blue enamel and painted corners, inner blue and white enamel engraved movement holder, the reverse with square enamel plaque painted with a scene of a lady walking a lamb, two applied gilt-metal curled sides with hanging gold baskets, upper with matching enamel to a movable bow. White enamel with Breguet numerals, outer minute divisions, aperture winding aperture at 2. Blued steel Breguet hands. Hinged gilt full plate, turned pillars, fusee barrel, verge escapement, pierced and engraved continental style balance cock with polished steel end-cap, regulator dial. Dim. 10.6 cm high, total width 7 cm.
