Probably French, circa 1600. Fine gilt brass oval "savonette" pre-balance spring, single-hand pendant watch. Two-body, "fermée type", covers with peripheral engravings, fluted band. Silver ring with radial Romannumerals and half-hour marks fixed to gilt brass plate chased and engraved with inhabited foliage. Blued steel"tulip" hand. Oval, 45 x 34 mm, gilt brass full plate with engraved border, turned baluster pillars, fusee andgut, 4-wheel train, verge escapement, circular steel foliot, irregular pinned cock pierced and engraved withfloral pattern.Dim. 62 x 38 mm. Notes The inside of the cover is engraved "John Calvin", no doubt the owner of the watch.
