Portrait of William White Dorr, Civil War Soldier, oil on canvas gilded frame with raised gesso decoration, ht. 29 1/2, wd. 34 in. framed. Note: According to a late 19th century note which accompanies the lot, William White Dorr was born October 1, 1837, and was a captain in the 121st Pennsylvania Regiment, killed in action at the battle of Spotsylvania Court House Virginia, May 10, 1864. Flaking paint on portrait, cupping of canvas could make flaking continue; losses to gesso and gilding on frame.
