In 1987 he was German carting champion, in 1992 he ranked 3rd in World Championship, 4th in 1993 and in 1994 became Formula 1 World Champion. In 1995 he was again World Champion Formula 1 and won the Grand Prix of Sao Paulo, Brazil, that of Barcelona, Spain, and the Monte Carlo Grand Prix in Monaco. In 1996 Michael Schumacher joined the Ferrari team and won the Grand Prix of Barcelona, Spain, and of Monza, Italy. In 1997, he was 2nd in season Formula 1 opener Melbourne, Australia, and won the Grand Prix of Monte Carlo, Monaco, of Montreal, Canada, of Magny Cours, France, of Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium and of Suzuka, Japan. Schumacher has served as the Special Envoy for Education and Sports for UNESCO since 1995 Millions of children fight today throughout the world to survive in distressed situations. They are victims of wars or natural catastrophes; they have AIDS; they are refugees or held in camps; some are mentally or physically handicaped; they live and work in the streets.
