U. S. Military Brass-mounted Presentation Sword and Scabbard, wire-wrapped shagreen grip and etched decorated blade, scabbard engraved "Presented to 1st Lieut. Geo. C. Harkness, by the members of R.I. Battery D.," overall lg. 39 3/4 in. Note: George C. Harkness was commissioned September 1861, wounded at Bull Run, August 1862, returned to command the Battery, November 1862, and discharged on tender his resignation, March 1863.
