Watercolor on paper, 13 x 9 in. (33.2 x 22.8 cm), unmatted, unframed. Condition: Subtle rippling and handling creases, unpressed creases to l.l. and u.r. corners, glue stains in corners of reverse which bleed through to the front. Harlequinade, Ballet in Two Acts (1965): music by Riccardo Drigo, choreography by George Balanchine, scenery and costumes by Rouben Ter-Arutunian. Les millions d'Arlequin was originally created by the choreographer Marius Petipa and the composer Riccardo Drigo for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1900. George Balanchine staged an important revival of the work in honor of its 65th anniversary for the New York City Ballet, premiering February 4, 1965, under the title Harlequinade . The leading dancers were Patricia McBride as Columbine, Edward Villella as Harlequin, Suki Schorer as Pierrette, and Deni Lamont as Pierrot.
