Lacquer Document Box, Japan, late 18th century, the top decorated with maki-e and taka maki-e with chrysanthemums with tendrils and leaves with one quarter decorated in a checkerboard pattern, kirigane applied to the tendrils and leaves, the decoration continues to the bottom box, the two shakudo metal mounts on the side in the shape of plum blossoms, the interior in dense nashiji, lg. 9 1/8 in.
