42nd Regiment of Foot Musket, c. last quarter 18th century, walnut stock with 1715 carved on one side of the butt, H M IAN on the other side, brass fittings, buttplate tang marked with a crown and 42 REG , lock marked E. DENMAN , barrel is marked with commercial proofs at the breech and LONDON on the top of the barrel, barrel lg. 39, overall lg. 55 in. Note: The date 1715 coincides with the Jacobite Rising.
