General William Henry Clinton's Gorget, 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, c. 1790, gilt-silver gorget with scalework on each side with no gilt finish, silver British Royal Arms in the center, surrounded by foliate designs, retains the blue silk rosettes on the upper arms, with a piece of leather glued to the underside, marked W.H.C. , ht. 4 1/4, wd. 3 1/2 in. Provenance: This gorget was sold by Peter Finer in 1995, and is listed as item 29 in his catalog. Note: Clinton was born in 1769, and his father was Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Clinton. He was commissioned as a Captain in the Foot Guards in July 1790. He died in 1846.
