1940. Original production celluloid and one-of-a-kind original production background. Two-cel set-up, gouache on trimmed celluloids applied to a watercolor production background by Claude Coats (unsigned), depicting Gepetto discovering Pinocchio's donkey ears while on the boat in Monstro's belly, annotated in pencil on the verso of the sheet Seq. 05, Sec. 24. Size of Gepetto 7 x 5 3/4 inches; size of Pinocchio 4 x 3 inches. Printed label to the verso of frame states "This original master background and cel painting are from Walt Disney Studios and were used in the filming of Pinocchio. Only one background is made for each scene. Consequently, this is the only one of its kind in existence." Also included is the background artist attribution to Claude Coats and a repetition of the production sequence: Production #2003. Scene 24. Sequence 05. Framed and matted. 9 x 10 3/4 inches.
