Attributed to Jose Vital Bronco Malhoa (Portuguese 1853-1933), "Allegorical Painting ". According to correspondence from Manuel Leitao of (Solar Antiques) Albuquerque & Sousa, Lda. in Lisbon, Portugal, oval oil on canvas painting originally hung on the ceiling of a parlor room in a private castle in Lisbon. Castle was built circa 1890-1900. Painting depicting an allegorical scene with a young beauty at center next to a male holding a painted slab with his back turned to the viewer. The man is flanked with three additional male nude figures and has a helmet on the ground by his feet. Two winged nude putti figures are flying in the cloudy blue sky at right. Apparently unsigned. According to the consignor, purchased in Portugal in March of 1995. Accompanied with copy of document from Solar Antiques dated 1995, stating that Mr. Leitao purchased the work from a private home in Lisbon and attributes the work to Malhoa. Framed 54 inches x 84 inches. Unframed 48 inches x 78.5 inches. Provenance: From the Estate of Mr. Thomas V. and Mrs. Marie B. Patton, Atlanta, Georgia.
